VDU

Since the introduction of the Health and Safety (Display Screen Equipment) Regulations 1992, eyecare for VDU users has is required to be provided by employers for all employees in accordance with regulation 5 of the Display Screen Equipment Regulations. (For information on the regulations, go to www.legislation.hmso.gov.uk.

The requirements can be summarized as below and now include employees who may work from home or a location that may not be deemed the employer’s main office.

If a member of staff is classified as a user the employer must:

• Provide a full eye examination free of charge to you when you commence VDU work and at regular intervals thereafter.

• Provide a full eye examination free of charge to you if you are experiencing visual problems which may be due to working with a VDU.

• Pay for a pair of basic glasses if it is shown that you require these specifically for VDU use, or an equivalent amount of money towards a pair of your choice.

• Provide adequate breaks or changes of activity to reduce general visual fatigue.

• Provide health and safety training information relating to the workstation. Keep you informed about the Regulations, particularly those relating to eyesight, rest breaks and guidance on work station minimum requirements.

Where logistically possible our professional staff can come on site free of charge in most cases and measure and dispense your spectacle prescriptions to ensure accuracy of prescription and frame fitting.

Eye Tests

Being qualified opticians we can arrange eye tests on site if necessary, or at a local optician or we can arrange your staff can have their eyes tested at their regular optician and have us make up their glasses by coming on site to take measurements and give advice.
